PEBBLE
The Brush Tailed Rock Wallaby

Pebble lives in a rocky gorge with steep cliffs and tumbled rocks. She is very agile and can race over the rocks and dissappear up a steep rockface very quickly. She holds her tail up over her back to help balance as she races away.

There is not much food in the gorge where Pebble lives, but there are plenty of nice sweet grasses in the open forest nearby. So in the cool of the evening, Pebble will leave the gorge and hop up to the forest to feed.

She has very good ears, and if she hears something coming, Pebble will race away with a crash and a thump. In the gorge she has some favourite places to hide in little caves. but if she is cold she will sit on the rocks in the sun to warm up.

Like all wallabies and kangaroos, Pebble carries her baby joey in her pouch. Sometimes the joey will tumble out and run around for a while, but soon it jumps back into the safety and comfort of Pebble's pouch. Often when Pebble is bent over eating some grass, little joey's face appears and it has a nibble too.

Rock wallabies can be found in many places around Australia. However, Pebble comes from the mountain ranges in the east. Unfortunately many of the gorges there are no longer safe for rock wallabies because of the bush being cleared and people and dogs living nearby. So we have to find ways to protect the rock wallabies and preserve their special rocky gorges.
